GSC’s design of American Bank of Commerce’s headquarters recalls aspects of its smaller branch banks while integrating itself into the character of downtown Austin through materials and scale. Being located in an urban center, the building engages both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, allowing each to function independently and safely from the other.

The bank building incorporates simple-yet-effective sustainable design strategies to earn a One-Star Rating from the Austin Energy Green Building Program. Higher-efficiency mechanical systems, high-reflectance roofing, and a solar panel array all serve to increase the long-term sustainability of the structure while decreasing annual operating costs.

Due to its location in a densely developed area, access to the site was limited by the small amount of surface parking nearby. To resolve this, a five-level parking garage was seamlessly integrated into the design, serving the building’s tenants during the day and the vibrant nightlife of the surrounding area after-hours.
