LCPL Nicholas S. Perez Elementary School is a 32-classroom campus for the Austin Independent School District. The campus incorporates classrooms oriented around a central courtyard and library. The resultant exterior exposure allows for natural light to enter 98% of the classrooms. Sunshade devices on the south, east and west faces serving to diffuse direct sunlight. The design accounts for future growth of classroom space and additions to the school and site features. The Perez Campus Community enjoys the facility and has enhanced the campus with art projects, science projects and community sponsored features including a pond in the courtyard in 2010 and a nature trail to Onion Creek.

The LCPL Nicholas S. Perez Elementary school was a fast track project and was not only successful in being completed on time, but also utilized many sustainable/energy efficient features which led to a Two-Star Austin Energy Green Building Program Rating.

The 6,000 SF central courtyard serves as a community space for the campus, giving the campus a secure yet inviting outdoor learning environment. Surrounding the courtyard are the Library, Administration, Fine Arts and Multipurpose rooms and main corridors connecting the grade-specific classroom pods. The campus is able to utilize the courtyard in connection with the Dining area, Gym area and outdoor covered areas for community events. The Perez Elementary staff hold their annual festivals in all those adjoining spaces.
