Sustainable Design

An Austin Energy GreenChoice® Champion, GS&C strives to be a sustainable firm in its actions and in its projects.  We implement green design strategies as well as green operational practices in our own office.  Through natural day lighting, lighting timers, and advanced plumbing fixtures, we are striving to reduce our impact on natural resources.  With the help of the City of Austin’s Waste Reduction Assistance Program, we have reduced the waste we create through recycling and composting programs.  From the occupancy of our building in 2000, our electrical power has been from the clean renewable sources of GreenChoice®.  Our process never stops as we continue to make improvements and grow green from the inside-out. GS&C has extensive experience designing sustainable projects ranging from 4,000 to 860,000 square feet.  GS&C is a Charter Member of the City of Austin Energy’s GreenChoice® Program, a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and works closely with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) Program to incorporate sustainable, energy efficient designs.

GS&C can provide sustainable services to its clients in two broad and distinct areas: projects in which GS&C is the prime architect; and sustainability can be an integral component of the project, or projects in which GS&C is a consultant to the Owner and is not the architect-of-record.

It is recommended that clients who wish to pursue sustainable design should initiate the effort with commencement of the project and maintain the effort throughout the design, documentation, construction and commission/certification phases.  GS&C is qualified in services for both the Austin Green Building Program and with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) Program to incorporate sustainable, energy efficient designs.
GS&C currently has full-time LEED® Accredited Professionals on staff, and fully embraces LEED® concepts as an integral part of its design process.
