AISD Perez Elementary School
L.Cpl. Nicholas S. Perez Elementary School is a 32-classroom campus for the Austin Independent School District. The school's design follows AISD's Education Specifications and it also incorporates sustainable/energy efficient features that led to a Two-Star Austin Energy Green Building Program Rating. One sustainable feature central to the overall design is passive day-lighting. The glazing arrangement allows natural light to enter 98% of the classrooms, while sunshade devices mounted on the South, East and West facing classroom windows act to diffuse direct sunlight. The campus design includes not only indoor, but several outdoor learning environments. One is a large 6,000 SF secure courtyard that is located at the core of the campus. It is surrounded by the Library, Art, Music, Multipurpose Room and two main corridors for convenient accessibility for all of the students. The Perez Campus Community enjoys the facility and plans to enhance the campus with art projects, science projects and community features.
