GS&C has served the educational community over the past twenty-eight years in the roles of friend, advisor and professional consultant.
On more than one occasion, GS&C has helped develop “educational specifications” to form a basis for programming the needs of the school system, chaired prevailing wage surveys to establish proper pay scales for workers in the area as required by law, sponsored internships within the profession, served on teacher compensation task forces and worked in bond elections. GS&C has assisted school districts in several other capacities that have benefited Texas children.
Our goal in every educational facility is to meet the needs of the school district, students and staff while simultaneously creating an inspirational learning environment. We have assembled a team of architects that have both educational design expertise and enthusiasm for these projects. We are passionate about education and like to be engaged in not only the design of educational facilities, but the entire process working hand-in-hand with the school district and educational community.
In that regard, GS&C has been involved in bond package preparations, land acquisition, and establishing school district design standards, as well as attending student presentations, career fairs, campus advisory councils, Austin Partners in Education events and other similar educational organization’s events. We have also participated in seminars, conventions and associations that focus on education and educational design. We are active in The Council of Educational Facility Planners International and frequently learn a great deal while visiting existing campuses. One specific example of GS&C’s involvement was the 2004 Bond Package for the Austin Independent School District. In the preparation of the bond package, we completed nine separate facility evaluations, developed the “AISD Middle School Educational Specifications” and provided the site due-diligence study, which revealed the existence of a wetlands restriction, an extensive subdivision setback and limited vehicular access. Another notable example of our participation includes a recent visit to Del Valle Elementary to conduct a presentation and discussion on scale and ratio to the 6th grade class.
