Herman Miller
Workplace Resource Austin, Texas
The Herman Miller Workplace Resource needed to reorganize their sales force to make more room and re-capture space for a furniture showroom. The renovation of the one-and-a-half story office also required acoustic and lighting improvements. Herman Miller desired that the renovated space would simultaneously present a sense of innovation, privacy, and flexibility.
The design solution incorporated the inclusion of acoustic ceiling "clouds" that hang at different heights and varied angles over the workstations in order to absorb sound, create distinguished zones, and provide a reflective surface for ambient lighting. This solution allowed for a less rigid furniture arrangement and a better distribution of light. In addition, it offered an aesthetically pleasing dynamic design element that enhanced the showroom and caught passers-by attention. A rich, but playful color palette was used to activate wall planes in the space. Once again, this added to the lively quality of the showroom and provided the client with an attractive, engaging storefront.
