Texas A&M Univ.
Library, Computing & Study Complex College Station, Texas
The project is a 506,500SF phased new construction, renovation and restoration effort for Texas A&M University spanning in excess of seven years. It began with the design of a new 94,500SF library a 32,500SF computing center, allowing phased vacating and renovation of the 379,500SF Sterling C. Evans Library, all of which is served by a new 620-space parking facility. During the project, restoration of the 1930 Cushing Library was added to the scope.
Beyond the inherent complications of renovating a major, highly used university facility while it is occupied was the unusually configured available site for the new library, computing center and parking facility. Existing Peterson Hall, Heep Lab Building, and the Pavilion created a "T" shaped area, allowing the new library expansion and the computing center to occupy the cross-member of the "T" and the new parking facility to occupy the stem. This arrangement provided a direct connection between the existing Sterling Evans and new library, allowed controlled access between the new library and Computing Center while allowing separate access to the Computing Center and allowing the parking structure access to a major inter-campus street at the base of the "T".
