LBJ Library

University of Texas
Austin, Texas

The library was completed by Brooks, Barr, Graeber & White (the predecessor of Graeber, Simmons & Cowan) in association with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

The archives are the heart of the library and serve as a repository for the Presidential papers, which are stored in red buckram boxes with gold U.S. Presidential seals. Displayed row on row behind huge glass doors, this room is the climax of a beautifully controlled spatial sequence. Administrative offices, a roof terrace, a 7/8th scale replica of the Oval Office in the White House, and a helicopter landing pad are also included.

Library Renovations
Graeber, Simmons & Cowan was retained to design major modifications to the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library. The exhibit and display areas were expanded. Catering and reception rooms were created, and environmentally controlled archive storage spaces were installed.
