Constructed in two separate phases the Austin Community College Health Careers Building consolidated the college's Health Sciences programs into one centralized location from other existing campus'. The first phase was an 89,000-square-foot structure, which houses the nursing, radiology, surgical technology, and dental hygiene programs, while phase two was a 57,000-square-foot addition that accommodates the remaining health programs. Encompassed within the project were not only two new buildings, but a natural wetlands, improvements to an existing waterway removing neighboring homes from a 100-year flood plain, parking lots to alleviate congested neighborhood streets, and a pedestrian sky walk across a roadway connecting to an existing campus building. Provisions were also made for the future development of a community garden for continuing to foster a positive relationship between ACC and the existing neighborhood.
