Advanced Micro
Devices Lone Star Austin, TX
In April 2005, Advanced Micro Devices announced plans for a new campus on a 59-acre tract in south Austin to consolidate its Austin based design and administrative staff. The scope of the project called for Graeber, Simmons & Cowan to program, plan and design the corporate campus site, buildings and interior.
Working with environmental and landscape experts, GS&C's proposal for the 860,000 square foot campus demonstrates a commitment to sustainable building principles: Confining the buildings and roads to the smallest and most habitat-favorable location, incorporating model energy and material systems, and harvesting rainwater from the rooftops. Each building's roof will collect rainwater in a series of cisterns totaling 360,000 gallons which will be used for irrigation of the site's 100% native landscaping. Overflow from those systems is collected in a 1.1 million gallon underground tank that will provide some of the makeup water for the campus mechanical system's cooling towers. A predominantly exterior material palette consisting of native stone and metal panels will provide aesthetic continuity for the campus. Expansive glass with solar shading will allow controlled daylight to penetrate the open office areas and provide visual access to the natural setting.
The campus is scheduled for completion by the end of the year (2007).
